Focus on Imaging
Early night for me !!!
6.30 am train from Plymouth for Focus @ NEC.
Going to look at Gitzo tripods, gimball & ballheads.
Looking for a decent point & shoot, for the better half (possibly a Panasonic GF-1) & alternatives to Epson paper & ink (Photospeed recommended by Tony Worobiec).
Not forgetting to take in the Canon & Adobe stands
Should be a good day out.
Cheers - Terry |

Lol - nope none of that stuff ;-)
Although managed to pick up 2-3 (very) big things on my want list over the last week means that I'm literally looking for new FB papers to see if anything jumps out above Gold Fibre Slk, see if there are any frame deals (I suspect I'll be placing a well timed order from one of my regular suppliers with a 25% discount - to cover my petrol ;-) ), and to catch up with some people, including of course your good self.....

Cheers Dave, new about the 'recipes' but not that you can tinker with JPEGs, good to know. |

Robbie,
You can use DPP to adjust JPEGs - as long as it is minimal. These adjustments can then be applied to other images. So you ould adjust one, then apply the same adjustment to all the others if you wanted to.
Open and image, make some changes using the RGB tab. Close out to thumbnail view. Select the iamge you've adjusted, choose edit>copy recipe to clipboard. Select all other iamges, choose edit>paste recipe to selected image. Confirm you want to adjust all images. Done.

Hi Steve, cheers. I was aware that DPP was primarily for raw but was just wondering. I was trying to avoid doing them in raw due to the number of exposures nessarcery - to give you some idea, 136 frames of 30 seconds each exposure will create about 8 seconds of star trail 'movie'. I may try some 'in camera' sharpening to see how it turns out.

Thanks both,
I have added the caption field at the bottom of each Travel photo so it now gives the location.
I am now choosing the photos for the bigger travel website - that should be live next weekend. Would welcome your feedback on that one as well.
Thanks and have a good weekend

Robbie I think you will find that DPP doesn't like JPEG's (?) it is primary for RAW. However, the other software I have no idea as it's not something I would use. Perhaps you could ask a friend who has PS? |

C
Can anyone one tell me whether I can batch process some jpegs (at least 250) using DPP or Paintshop, as I need to tweak a bit in levels and also sharpen. I don't want have do each one separately unless I have to, due to the time aspect. The images are part of some star trails I've been doing which are then stacked using the Startrails app'. If they are put together as one image, then its no problem to do a certain amount on the final file, however if they are going to be a short avi then obviously I can't do it on the final file. I know it can be done on PS but I don't have that - nor likely to in the near future.

- Has the scoring/voting system been sorted out now?
cheers

Hi Dave, thanks for that, it's not something I constantly use, (as you know ) however, subject to how things go over the next few months it's something I will be setting the camera too for one small project, although it will be fired by remote.
cheers

Hi Steve
I used to use the quiet mode all the time when i had the MK3-Great for fox etc that are very shy, It has no effect on shutter speed but does mean that you shoot literally in single mode, You control when the shutter comes down by your finger-a great feature that i miss-its now on the D3s which i would love but cant afford-yet

Well it's been a long time coming, but it's out now!
Collins Bird guide 2nd edition (not the hardback)
It's probably the best ID bird book out on the market and available from Amazon at a very affordable price, don't delay, just get it. it will probably be the best Bird book you will ever want or need to buy.

By setting the camera to 'silent mode' does this have any bearing on the shutter speed? The only reason I ask is there are times when you do not want the 'machine gun' sound and opt for the 'silent mode', however the shutter sounds so slow? Daft question I know, but... |

I have my ticket, but need to sort out a day with the 9-5 job!
Would go on the last day normally, but having just started a new role (in a new location) for the firm, it might be awkward......
