Just taken delivery of the new pocketwizard units. Have done a simple unbox video for now, but expect an in depth blog post or series of videos showing them in use over the coming months!

PocketWizard Flex TT5 Mini TT1 unboxed from EOS Network on Vimeo.

Anyone got any Benny Hill music? ;-)

Not written/filmed it yet, but it is coming. It's been too busy to get anything done recently.

If you've got questions, ask away, I'm happy to answer them even before I've done the review.

Can you tell me if these units work with the pocket wizard plus II system.

What frequencies do they use, and are configured in the same way as other pocket wizard units - i.e.  Using  different American and European frequencies.

Yes, they will work in conjunction with the PW II system and yes, they do come in two different versions - a US version and a European version.

It's 340-354 MHz for the US version and 433.43-434.42 MHz for Europe.

I would love to get that pile of kit in the video.

Unfortunately due to the banking crisis I'm afraid to remortgage my house to buy them ;-)

OK serious question Dave.

We have the 2 receiver and 1 transmitter kit for a 'reasonable' price.

So would you say it would be a reasonable purchase instead of just 3 straight pocketwizards? Obviously the TTL benefit is superb but I mean to use in conjuction with two remote powerpack strobes?

Or put another way, if you didnt already own PWs is this the only set to buy?

In a word: Yes.

If I didn't already own PWs (and I didn't before I got these!) then this is what I'd go for. The ability to use TTL is fantastic, but for me, I actually tend to send remote flash powers manually anyway, but I can do it from the master flash on camera (on top of a TT1) and this is transmitted out to the other flashguns.

If you are going for TTL flash, then the ability to not need a flash on the camera is great. You've instantly got an extra remote gun if you need it, just by using the TT1 on camera as the master. If you want ratio control, this can be done as well, but then you need a speedlite on the TT1 on top of the camera.

Basically, it's a very versatile system, and also, the hypesync stuff for high speed sync is great too.

If you can get a kit at a reasonable price, go for it.

Dave

PS -when you over this way?

Cheers Dave, appreciated.

Been sort of waiting for something like this for a while.

I was over there twice last month but two flying visits to family in Liverpool at either end of a holiday/work in Cyprus. Been up to my eyes since coming home and only now starting to edit through all the stock pics. I think I was only here about 4 or 5 days last month.

Gonna try and get over at least once more before Christmas so hopefully wont be as rushed. Making plans to visit the mofo in BA early next year so a lot is going towards that.

Was supposed to be in Austria this week but thats been put on hold, so dont know when to, when thats sorted (if it ever is) Ill get my own plans together.
