No, this is not something you can get your hands on but rather some emerging technology from a couple of scientists in New York... but it's something that may make it to cameras in the future!
Flash photography can be quite blinding for the person being photographed, especially if they happen to look straight at the light. However, two researchers have found a way of turning a flash into a UV flash and then combining it with a modified Fuji DSLR so that when used the flash was all but invsible to the subject. I suspect it could easily be done with a Canon EOS model as well, and in fact, the EOS 20Da that was made specifically for astrophotography may be the perfect camera to try with - it already has a modified UV cut filter to make it more sensitive to UV light so it's already part of the way there.
Sound like an odd concept? Well, it is, but it will clearly have some uses in the future - they're already talking about the paprazzi benefitting (the 'celeb' doesn't know they've been photographed) but there are other, more useful potential uses as well - wildlife perhaps. It won't work for all wildlife as some species are more sensitive to UV light, but it could help you get some shots without the blinding light scaring them away.
For all the info in some really quite glorious detail, take a look at this gizmag article.
