Welcome to the FAQ for the EOS Network Photo Gallery. This FAQ will give you all the information you need to be able to upload your images to the EOS Network website for peer review and feedback. Images uploaded should be taken on a Canon camera.
Q. Do I need to be a member to upload images?
A. Yes, you need to be registered otherwise you will be unable to post images or view posted images in detail.
Q. Where do I go to upload images?
A. Log in and then go to the Photo Gallery section. Select "User panel". Click the "New image" button and fill in the details. Make sure you choose the correct category to upload your image to. Also, giving as much detail in the description as possible is a good idea. Click upload. Voila! your iamge will upload into the gallery you have chosen.
Q. How many images can I upload?
A. You can have up to 20 images uploaded to the site at any one time. If you have used your quota, you will need to delete some to post new images. We hope you'll use the quota like a rolling 'best of' gallery of your images.
Q. What type and size of images can I upload?
A. Images should be JPEG files and a maximum file size of 500kb (512,000bytes). They should have a maximum dimension of 800pixels on the longest edge. When you upload images of 800px longest edge, they will be resized to 600px longest edge, but the larger file will also be stored and used to provide a larger view in the image galleries. If you do not want your iamges to be seen any larger than 600px, make sure that is the largest image size you upload.
Q. What about panoramic images?
A. If you have created a panoramic image, then the 500kb limit still applies, but you should resize the horizontal edge to no more than 1000px. This will ensure the the great majority of users will still be able to see your image without having to scroll.
Q. What about EXIF data?
A. As long as you do not strip out EXIF data in your processing, the site will automatically determine the Camera make and model, shutter speed, aperture, ISO, metering mode, shooting mode and any flash usage. If you have geo-tagged your images, the GPS data will also be detected and displayed.
I you don't think you've removed the EXIF data from your image, but when you upload it there is no EXIF data showing, then it is most likely due to one of two reasons - either the software you used to convert from RAW removed the EXIF data, or if you used Photoshop, you chose "Save for web". If you used the latter, then EXIF data is removed by Photoshop in the saving process as a way of reducing file size.
Q. How should I make use of the galleries?
A. Because you only have a limited number of uploads permitted to the site, it makes sense to not flood the galleries with images all at once. Instead it would be sensible to upload one image at a time, perhaps one a day. This will give the community time to view and comment on your images ensuring you get the most feedback possible.
Q. How do I protect my images?
A. The simple answer is don't publish them online. However, that's not useful. We have blocked non-registered members from viewing images in detail, instead they are blocked at the gallery thumbnail stage. However, it is a case of user beware. By all means use a watermark over the top of your images, but remember this does detract from the image and some users may be less inclined to vote or comment on images with watermarks - the trick is to keep them simple.
By posting images on the gallery, you accept that EOS Network can take no responsibility for images stolen.
Q. What about image rights?
A. The images you post into the gallery are yours. It's that simple. The gallery on this site is simply a way for you to show your images and get peer ratings and review. We will never assume any rights to your images. The rights and copyright are yours and your alone.
Q. What is CoolIris, I keep seeing the link when I'm in the gallery page?
A. CoolIris is a photo viewing tool that is a very quick way to view images. The galllery is enabled to support CoolIris so if you want, you can view the images in the gallery using the CoolIris viewer. Essentially it turns the screen into a big lightbox table with a slideshow of the images in that particular gallery. In the top right, you will see any image description that the poster has entered. Unfortunately, it is only a viewing tool and currently you cannot rate or comment on images while viewing them there.
