Yesterday while we were out shooting some video with EOS 5D Mark III for an upcoming EOS Network training event Canon launched three new video camcorders for the professional and advanced consumer film maker; XA25, XA20 and the Legria HF G30. There’s also a new 35mm Cinema Prime Lens in the pipeline along with updates to Cinema EOS cameras firmware and software.

Yesterday we had the pleasure of a meeting with Guffe Funck the inventor and creator of the Swedish Chameleon DSLR rigs. We have featured Swedish Chameleon a couple of times now on the site, firstly here at Focus on Imaging and then also at BVE, but this was our first chance to discuss the rigs and thinking in detail with Guffe.
Well, with NAB just around the corner, it’s not a huge surprise to see some new products and development announcements from Canon. However, while the development of the Cinema EOS line with a 4k version of the C300 is to be expected, coming out of left field is the announcement of the EOS-1D C, an EOS body with full 4k video shooting, uncompressed (and clean) HDMI output and 1080p at 50 or 60fps. Essentially taking all the brilliance of the EOS-1D X and enabling 4k video shooting could prove to be a stroke of genius as so many people have been asking for it.
